The original lyrics to Shine were much darker, "Everyone you see, everyone you know, is gonna.. die"

Just when I thought I had seen it all, Vanessa toped all her other gigs so far by an extremely powerful performance on New Year’s Eve @ Riva St Kilda in Melbourne. There wasn’t a nano second when I regreted flying all the way to Melbourne and missing my oh so loved Sydney fireworks. Just as the clock stroke 11pm Vanessa was welcome on the stage by a screaming crowd. She was placed on a rather too high from the ground stage but not even that was going to keep this girl away from the fans; she was a regular visitor ‘downstairs’ joining the fans in celebrations. Unfortunately apart from the first two songs I cannot recall the order of the songs she performed but here they are as follows: Have A Look, The Power, Absolutely Everybody, Shine, Start It, I Thought We’d Stay Together, Fire, Perfect, Kiss Your Mama, Back In Black, Long Way To The Top, 19 Turning Point and a final song was a remix of Kiss Your Mama, Turn To Me, Perfect and Have a Look. The Remix had an incredible beat and totally toped the whole night up. Then she obviously led the countdown to midnight when the time was right. Even though she didn’t offically ‘come out’ after the show, she still didn’t mind meeting the most stubborn fans who couldn’t leave without a photo ;-) We also got to meet the whole Amorosi Squad, which exclusively included her boyfriend Mac. Yet again, a night with Vanessa brought no disappointement. Happy New Year absolutely everybody!

Vanessa Amorosi’s official myspace page has had it’s player updated. The first track is now ‘Perfect’, but it appears to be the original version before it was mixed for the album by Chris Lord-Alge. Those with keen ears would have noticed that the instrumental included on the Perfect CD-Single sounded a bit different. The instrumental matches with this ‘pre-mixed’ version now on her myspace. Listen out for the extra echo’s in the first verse, some flange sounding bits in the chorus, and louder guitar bits. It also has that “stay” repeat intro as used in Vanessa’s live backing track. These all seem to have been removed/turned down in the mix Chris did for the version on our CDs.
They also have reuploaded ‘A Little Love’, replacing ‘I Thought We’d Stay Together’. A Little Love was suggested as being the third single to some media prior to ‘The Simple Things’ being confirmed. Could reuploading it be a sign that it is back on the cards as a single?

ARIA ACTION

Author: Anna
10 12th, 2008

THERE’LL be plenty of action in Sydney this week, with the ARIA awards just seven days away.
London-based nominees Gabriella Cilmi and Sam Sparro are flying into town later in the week, as is international guest Pink.

Insider can also reveal a bunch of presenters for the big event at Homebush next Sunday. They include Myf Warhurst, Josh Pyke, Brian McFadden, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Chris Lilley, John Butler, Rove and Vanessa Amorosi.

The awards will be hosted by radio presenters Hamish Blake and Andy Lee, as well as Australian Idol’s James Mathison.

Sparro is tipped to stay on and play an exclusive party at MTV’s East Sydney base to launch the new BlackBerry phone.

An interesting eBay auction exists for quite a number of recent Vanessa Amorosi promo discs. A 1 track promo disc for ‘Kiss Your Mama’. A copy of the ‘Perfect’ single but in promo form. A CD with ‘Perfect Remixes’, including the unreleased Bexta Remix. And a 2-track ‘The Simple Things’ promo including the unreleased ‘T-Funk Remix’. But what I find so interesting about this auction is where these discs are coming from, Chatswood NSW.

A company called FATS Digital has contracts with both Universal Music and Sony BMG to create and package promo discs for either radio, press, or retailers - depending on which label and the particular job. They are based in Chatswood and managed by brothers Geoff and Rob Angell.

Going back to the auction, if you look at the feedback for the user selling the discs you notice that all they ever sell are promo discs, and secondly they all appear to be for artists from the above mentioned labels. I don’t see any Veronica’s (Warner Music) stuff there? Could a member of staff at this company be selling these discs for profit? Over the past three months alone, this eBay user has managed to make over $1,500 in sales, not bad for discs that cost them absolutely nothing. They have had nearly 300 auctions in the last 12 months, many of these containing multiple discs per auction.

During the production process, about 5 extra copies are legitimately made for every 100 units ordered by the labels. These are incase any discs are damaged during the disc printing or packaging processes, or incase there is any errors in printing. The labels certainly don’t get any free extras, so they end up in either their dumpster (located at rear, go around the right past ‘The Good Guys’, for those playing along at home), or on eBay it seems.

So why do I care? I should be happy at any opportunity to get my hands on rare Vanessa stuff right? Well while kinda true, the fact that this person is selling two unreleased mixes - ‘Perfect (Bexta Radio Edit)’ and ‘The Simple Things (T-Funk Mix)’ - is upsetting. The label has chosen not to release these to us on any of the releases so far, so our only option to get them is to try and outbid each other, leading to more money for this persons side ebay business. Wouldn’t it be just great if Universal adopted some modern thinking and released the remixes for free on Vanessa’s website. This is becoming more common overseas as a means of engaging the blogging communities as part of viral marketing.

A new official refreshed version of ‘The Simple Things’ has emerged, making the song much more upbeat and radio friendly. This new version, labelled ‘FP Remix’, has a new replaced beat and some additional synth reminiscent of the Paolo mix. It is also slightly faster than the original version. ‘The Simple Things’ now has three known official remixes, all unreleased.

Check out this new version below:

Vanessa was famously ’snubbed’ back in 2000, where despite being nominated 6 times, she did not win in any category. This lead to Vicki Gordon, Director of Marketing & A&R at Vanessa’s label at the time, to publically show her disgruntlement and refused to support ARIA in the future - causing quite a stir. Vicki oddly went on to become an ARIA board member. Australian Idol judge Ian Dickson has also publically criticised ARIA for their perceived intolerance of Idol contestants.

The T-Funk Mix (now being named Mr.T) of ‘The Simple Things’ has been added to Vanessa’s official Myspace page.

You can check it out following the link below, or we have it just below to stream in even better quality.

We previously posted a remix by Paul Cecchinelli from Vanessa’s band, and he has just uploaded his remix to his Myspace page. However the mix he has uploaded differs quite a bit from what was sent out to radio last month. This new version contains a longer introduction, longer outro, and the removal of a couple of effects throughout.

You can check it out on his Myspace below. Or again, we have it just below for you in even better quality ;)
